Introduction.

This design has been made for my school project. The project was about designing a 5 x 9 x 18 meter box into a living space. We had to decide how we would you those dimensions. I had taken the 9 x 18 meters as my surface and the 5 meter as a height. I am going to talk a bit about the morphology and concept, the materials and then the results.

Morphology and concept.

For the morphology we were given some objects to place inside this space. Soon I decided to give up those objects and went my own way. Lofts are known for the fact that there is a lot of space inside them and that they are not divided into rooms. I wanted to create mass inside this space without giving up that loft feeling of space-ness. My solution were walls made out of wooden layers. Between these layers there is room where you can view right through the walls and there is also the mass that separate spaces.

After determine how much space was needed between those layers I came up with the following scale. 1/3 mass (60mm) 2/3 space (120mm).

Those layers needed to be carried, there are several ways how that would be possible. The design till now was very peaceful and not chaotic. This system to keep those layers up would need to give this peacefulness more power. By adding small columns as supporting structure.

The first major adjustment in the main concept is ending the layers to make the living space more clear and givit it more power. The second ajustment is to make as mutch furniture as posible out the layer, by accample the closets and tables. The last adjustment are the openings in the walls to enhance the openness.

End Result.
